Description

Rhizome short, erect, 1–1.5 cm thick; rhizome scales triangular in outline, base cordate, apex gradually tapering to a point, margins entire, 4 × 0.4 mm, brown. Fronds monomorphic, tufted, 27–45 cm tall. Stipe slender, 7–18 cm long, dark purple-brown, hairless, shiny basal scales present. Lamina pinnate, budding at the apex; pinnae ± rectangular or the uppermost ones obcuneate, coarsely crenate-lobulate along upper and outer margins but not deeply incised, rounded at apex, straight along lower margin, 10–20 × 5–9 mm, hairless; rhachis hairless; stalklets ± 0.5 mm long. Sori 2–3(–4) per pinna, situated in basal half of upper margin, oblong with curved lower margin, 1–2 mm wide, the 2 near the rhachis sometimes contiguous, hairless.

Notes

A. stolzii is pinnate, has a rhachis that is not hairy and short, unwinged petiolules (< 1mm), this makes it different from other species in Adiantaceae .
Its pinnae are more rectangular and have 2-3(-4) sori per pinnae; thus differing from A. schweinfurthii (pinnae oblong-lanceolate, sori 4-7 per pinnae)

stolzii: named after A.F. Stolz (1871-1917), German missionary, merchant and plant collector.
