Description of the genus

Rhizome short, ascending to erect, densely set with scales. Fronds tufted. Lamina herbaceous to coracious, pinnate, narrowly oval, apex imparipinnate or pinnatifid, veins anastomosing. Sori circular, indusium peltate.

 

Derivation of name:  kyrtos: arch, referring to the venation of the leaves.

Worldwide: 15-20 species, pantropical.
